Headteacher of the Year in a Primary School

Congratulations to Maria Carlton Executive Headteacher at Bewley & Kirklevington Primary Schools. Maria has just been announced as The Gold Winner of the 2023 Pearsons National Teaching Award for Headteacher in a Primary School.

Revealed on BBC One Show tonight, 21 November 2023, Maria was surprised by Ronan Keating who announced that she had won. The motto at Bewley Primary School is ‘Bright, Proud and Successful’. This permeates through Maria’s leadership and transcends to staff, pupils, parents/carers, and the wider community. Maria until recently was a National Leader of Education and is also part of the Head Teacher Leadership Board for Campus Tees School Alliance. Maria has a determination and passion for school improvement and schools in The 1590 Trust and the wider network across The Tees Valley and beyond benefit from her knowledge and experience.
